Water main break still not found; residents upset

BYRAM, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Public works crews still haven't found a water main break that's affecting thousands in and around South Jackson.

The city's spokesperson, Shelia Byrd, told us the break took place on one of the city's main transmission lines near Interstate 220.

South Jackson and other areas like Byram that are on the Jackson water system -- have been placed on well water, which officials say is safe to drink, even if it appears discolored or smells funny.

One resident tells us this isn't the first time he's had trouble.

"We've got just enough to get by, and in the kitchen and in the bathroom, just barely enough to wash your hands," Byram resident William Thomas said.

The city's asking all South Jackson and Byram residents to conserve water until the water main break is found and fixed.
