JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

New digital meters are causing more frustrations for Jackson homeowners.

Northeast Jackson resident Steven Dale said the new system doesn't allow you to shut off the water to your home in the event of emergencies like leaks.

Sunday his water had to be shut off when a company was installing a new refrigerator with ice maker and water.

The Southbrook Drive homeowner tells us he had to call the city and waited an hour for them to arrive.

Dale fears major damage to homes if they must rely on the city crews to turn off the water.

"We need to have the ability as homeowners to turn our water off in case their is an emergency. I mean this could happen to anybody and I'm sure people have run into that problem before and water damage is worse than fire," said Dale.

Workers had to leave and could not install the new refrigerator according to the frustrated homeowner.

He had to call the city to have his water restored and said he will have to make yet another appointment with the company and city to finish the installment.
