JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Starting on Monday, armed Guardsmen will be stationed at National Guard recruiting centers across the Magnolia State.

Governor Phil Bryant issued the order last week. He says it's important for the Guardsmen to be able to defend themselves in the event of an attack.

In addition to the armed guards, Mississippi Adjutant General Leon Collins says other security measures will be put in place as well.

"I can tell you that we have put in some measures that would make it a little more difficult for someone to come in and make an attack on those recruiters, and we also have some training that we wanted to put our recruiters through before we put them out front of those storefront office," he says.

The Mississippi National Guard has ten recruiting offices throughout the state. The Guardsmen were temporarily removed from those offices following the shootings in Tennessee.
