MONROE COUNTY (Mississippi News Now) -

WTVA reports a 77-year-old north Mississippi man died Tuesday in a lawn mower accident.

The man has been identified as Paul Wayne Puckett, the owner of B&P Hardware in Sulligent and a Greenwood Springs resident.

We're told shortly before 8 p.m. on Tuesday night, a motorist noticed the mower overturned in a small pond beside Puckett's home.

The man and another person went to check and found the body of Puckett under the mower in the pond.

He was on a standard on a Wizard 19 HP mower and had attached a small tank behind the seat and used it to spray chemicals.

He was apparently spraying weeds close to the water when he overturned into the water.

Monroe County Coroner, Alan Gurley ruled the cause of death as a drowning and said Puckett was pronounced dead at the scene at around 8 p.m.

Coroner Gurley said no autopsy was performed.

Puckett's death marks the second lawn mower related death in less than 24 hours.

Authorities said in DeSoto County,16-year-old Barrett Williams died Tuesday when a riding mower flipped and landed on top of him in a culvert filled with water.

The DeSoto County Sheriff's Department said Williams was preparing to enter his senior year in high school.
