TAYLORSVILLE, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Taylorsville Police Department is asking for your help finding a arresting a counterfeit check suspect with a long criminal history.

They say a Laurel Man named Courtney Maurice Russel and another man have been passing counterfeit payroll checks at local grocery stores in Taylorsville, Magee, and Jones County.

These checks are counterfeited as Sanderson Farms, Tyson Foods, and Georgia Pacific.

The two subjects enter the stores one behind the other. On one occasion one subject was attempting to cash a counterfeit check when a Taylorsville Police officer walked into the store on an unrelated call.

The subject apparently got spooked and left the store.

In his hurry to leave he left a counterfeit check and his Mississippi drivers license behind.

The license identifies Courtney Maurice Russell, 848 N 7th Ave Laurel, MS.

Police say he no longer lives at that address. He has used Collins, Laurel and Prentiss addresses on the checks.

Russell apparently has an extensive criminal history in Michigan and a full Extradition felony warrant from Georgia for aggravated assault and child abuse.

The other male subject working with him is using the name Joe Mac Williams III on payroll checks.

He has produced an Alabama drivers license which appears to be fake.

The two men were traveling in a maroon early 2000s model Ford Expedition maroon with gold or brown stripe at the bottom.

If you have any information please contact Taylorsville Police at 601-785-6622 or Magee Police 601-849-2366.
