Mississippi's sales tax holiday is this weekend. But before you buy into getting new clothes and  supplies, we have important tips on what qualifies and what doesn't.

If you spend more than $100.00 on a single item, then you are taxed. Also school supplies and backpacks are NOT eligible for the 7% discount

.Mississippi's sales tax holiday is this weekend. 

"In the stores it applies to shoes, clothing, any clothing, any socks, pants, tops, undergarments; all those things it applies to," said Dillards Northpark Manager George Tanner.

John O'Hara with the Better Business Bureau said be sure you know what's on the approved list before spending big bucks and getting disappointed.
 
"The surprise comes at the register and you think everything is tax free," said O'Hara. "You know school supplies, backpacks, then all of a sudden when you check out you find out those items are not, they are on sale."

The Better Business Bureau suggests making a shopping list along with a budget. and be sure to know the difference between "back-to-school sale" and tax-free items.
