Learn to fight fraud Tuesday night in Flowood

FLOWOOD, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Outsmarting a con artist is easy when you know what to watch out for. That's the lesson of a program happening Tuesday night at the G. Chastaine Flynt Memorial Library in Flowood.

It's called Outsmart Con Artists. During the event, national experts from AARP will help you get inside the mind of a criminal so you don't become a victim of fraud.

One of the organizers says she recently received a call from a con artist who said he needed to take control of her computer. It's one of many schemes you need to watch out for.

"I said well tell me what this is about," said Ivory Craig, the Associate State Director of Community Outreach for AARP in Mississippi. " [He said] Well when you give me control I'll show you. So that's one of the major scams and then if you give that con artist control they can load a virus on your computer. You have to pay for that and they can steal all of your information.”

Outsmart Con Artists is happening Tuesday, August 11 from 6 p.m.to 7 p.m, at the Flowood library. The address is 103 Winners Circle in Flowood. You can RSVP by calling 1-877-926-8300.
