BRANDON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Brandon woman woke up on Wednesday morning to find her home, and others, covered in mayflies.

Laurie Sledge lives in Arbor Landing and she says the bugs are covering the whole neighborhood.

Mayflies, also known as shadflies, are aquatic insects whose nymphs (immature mayflies) live in fresh water. They hatch in enormous numbers between spring and fall.

The lifespan of the adult mayfly is very short, as their primary goal is reproduction.
