MADISON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Counterfeit currency is a problem that has plagued parts of Madison and Leflore County for weeks now.

On Monday August 10, the Madison Police Department responded to a call from the Walmart on Grandview Boulevard.  The staff there suspected that counterfeit currency was being passed at the store.

Investigators found video footage of two individuals suspected of possessing two counterfeit $50.00 bills.  Madison Police also determined that an additional ten counterfeit $50.00 bills had been used at Lowes Home Improvement store.

Information from Crime Stoppers and social media led investigators to Leflore County, where four suspects were taken into custody.  The individuals arrested were charged with Uttering Forgery and are being held at the Madison County detention center under a $150,000 bond.

Those charged include:

Tonnie Carrol, age 47

Brenda Denise Cross, age 41

Sylvester Anderson, age 37

Daphenia Anderson, age 36

The Madison Police Department is working with the U.S. Secret Service to determine the origin of the counterfeit currency.
