JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Earlier this afternoon, Jackson Police Department along with many other agencies both local and state apprehended and charged 23 year old Loren Shell with capital murder and motor vehicle theft in the death earlier this week of 81 year old Lee Kendrick of Pearl.

Shell is in custody of the Hinds County Detention Center. The vehicle has been recovered and the investigation remains ongoing.

Jackson Police released surveillance video from a local service station earlier this week that showed Shell getting out of a silver Buick driven by an unknown subject. The video was taken after Lee Kendrick's death.

Shell was originally wanted for questioning in connection with the murder investigation of Kendrick. It isn't clear yet her relation to Kendrick or the specifics regarding the case.

Kendrick's body was found by a young man at the Cedarstone Apartments just before 8 pm on Wednesday. He died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

Kendrick was reported missing earlier in the week.

A Smith County bail bondsman tells us Shell has a history of problems with law enforcement, saying she had been in jail there several times on several different offenses.

In fact, Shell was due in court next Friday to face charges of false identification and exploitation of a vulnerable person there.

Pearl Police Captain Brian McGairty said a customer at Kendrick's fencing business saw him Monday afternoon around 3 pm in Clinton.

Prior to that, Kendrick was seen on surveillance footage at a Trustmark bank in Pearl Monday morning just after 10.
