CONSIDER THIS: Power of Pink

Sopurce: WLBT Sopurce: WLBT

October is here and it has become well known as breast cancer awareness month. Seven years ago WLBT launched a campaign to support the effort to educate and raise awareness about this deadly disease.

Power of Pink aims to inform women, and men, about the risk factors and warning signs of breast cancer and the importance of early detection through self-exam and mammography.

Baptist Health Systems has partnered with WLBT since the campaign began and we thank them, and our other sponsors, for helping us share this important message.

Consider This: says about 1 in 8 U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. This year about 40,290 women in the U.S. are expected to die from breast cancer. That is a big number, but death rates have been decreasing since 1989, especially with women under 50. These decreases are thought to be the result of treatment advances, earlier detection through screening, and increased awareness.

Throughout the month you will hear and see a lot of information about the Power of Pink. It’s important to take the time to learn about the warning signs and how to perform self-exams.

We may not be able to eliminate breast cancer, but catching it early is very, very important. Join us in the fight as we focus on the Power of Pink.
