CONSIDER THIS: Election Issues

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Our right to vote is one of the most important rights we have as Americans. In many countries people wait hours and hours for the chance to vote. Unfortunately, here in the U.S. it is common to have less than 50% of registered voters turnout for an election. For the people who are engaged in the election process its reasonable for them to expect correct ballots, voting machines that work and an accurate, timely vote count. However, it seems in nearly every election there are issues. The Initiative 42 educational issue is confusing and in Hinds County it’s now even more confusing with incorrect ballots. In past elections we’ve seen counties where machines couldn’t accurately count some ballots which caused significant delays in the results.

Consider This:

Election commissions need to do a better, more thorough job in preparing for elections. There should be a system of checks and balances to make sure all ballots, machines, and other processes are accurate and working far enough in advance to address any issues before the election process begins. These ongoing issues are unacceptable. Voter apathy is at an all-time high. Mistakes with ballots, machines and delayed or inaccurate results only creates more frustration and skepticism. We have a presidential election next year. Let’s make sure that election, and all future elections, run flawlessly. Working in advance and triple checking all steps in the process will go a long way in making sure that happens.
