Three people ejected in fatal crashes during travel holiday period

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Four people have lost their lives on Mississippi Roadways as the Thanksgiving Holiday travel period nears its end.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol reports that 54-year-old Cathy Steed of Ethel was ejected when her 2003 Chevrolet pickup overturned.

Steed was traveling west on Highway 14 in Attala County when the truck left the roadway and hit an embankment.

Ray Morrow, 18, of Carthage was also ejected in a crash on Highway 488 in Leake County.

Investigators said the 2001 Ford Truck, Morrow was driving, rolled over after he lost control.

In a third accident, Curtis Baxter, 44, of Alabama was thrown from a car in George County.

According to troopers, the Semmes, AL man was driving a 2000 Ford Focus west on Highway 98 when the car left the roadway and overturned.

The fourth fatality was reported in Tippah County.

Robert Batie's, 61, of Ripley was in a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer on Highway 2 when the SUV hit a culvert and flipped.

The Thanksgiving Holiday travel period ends Sunday at midnight.
