FLOWOOD, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The frenzy of Black Friday may be over but holiday shopping is getting into high gear.

Hundreds of retailers in the metro Jackson area are offering deals and welcoming shoppers and law enforcement agencies are doing their part to keep you safe.

Police are increasing their presence during their holiday safety campaigns. Officers are more visible as they patrol area  shopping and retail centers.

Flowood police have a command center set up at Dogwood Festival mall. Thursday they were joined by the Rankin County Sheriff's Department in preparation for Black Friday.

Flowood will be adding patrol officers for the four malls in the area.

Police are also visible at the Renaissance in Ridgeland, Northpark Mall and the Outlets of Mississippi in Pearl.

"I think it's great for the community to have a police presence out here," said Flowood resident Jim Jerden. "They do a great job. Flowood always has, and I can't remember if there has ever been any problems out here. So I think it's great, and I think we're fortunate to live here."

"I don't really think it would be a bad idea to implement more law enforcement, because I don't think it would hurt anything," said Flowood resident Destiny Hyatt. "I think if anything it would benefit us."

"Maintain and awareness of your surroundings and if you do see something  you can call 911 immediately," said Flowood Police Department Sgt. Clint Hatch. "If you see an officer, if it's nothing major and not an emergency, you can flag one of the officers down and get in touch with us that way."

In Jackson Operation Safe Shop is underway again this year with the Mobile Command Center set up at Walmart on Highway 18.
