Old Capitol Museum decked out for the holidays

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Christmas trees, wreaths, and lights add a bit of holiday cheer for visitors at The Old Capitol Museum in Jackson.

The museum opened its 19th century holiday decor exhibits Tuesday. The decor dates back to 1839 when a former U.S. president visited the capital city.

"The ladies of Jackson dressed the building up a little bit with greenery to welcome Andrew Jackson for a visit since he was such an important person, not only to the country, but to Jackson and the capital city as well," said museum director, Lauren Miller.

Visitors of the Old Capitol can view the festive exhibits at no charge throughout December and participate in a special Holiday Scavenger Hunt.
