FLASHBACK to DECEMBER 2, 2010: The Mississippi Children's Museum is officially dedicated. First Lady Marsha Barbour led the ceremonial "unwrapping" of the museum, which had been constructed at LeFleur's Bluff State Park, not far from the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science.

A group of fifth-graders were the first to explore the museum that day, with its many exhibits and 5,000-square-foot "climbing map" of the state. In all, it covered 50,000 square feet.

The museum was built along Highland Drive, which curves around to Lakeland Drive and the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum and the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum. Highland Drive has since been renamed Museum Boulevard.
