CONSIDER THIS: Bringing downtown Jackson back to life

Some good news coming out of downtown Jackson with the announcement that law firm Forman Watkins will relocate to the top four floors pf Regions Plaza, the tallest building in the city.

The University Club once occupied the top floor of the building offering sweeping views of the city, but that operation closed in 2011 and the space sat vacant.

Over the past few years downtown has lost several prominent businesses due to the economy and nicer digs in the suburbs. That makes this announcement even more significant.

This isn't the only positive business news happening in downtown Jackson. Cathead Vodka is relocating from Madison to a new distillery on Farish Street. The distributor needed more space to keep up with its growing demand and chose to make downtown its new home.

Consider This:
The city often gets a bad rap – and often times it's deserved – but downtown Jackson has a lot to offer. Its home to the state capitol, the governor's mansion, museums, unique architecture and many state agencies.

WLBT's studios are located in downtown Jackson, so we have a vested interest in the area.

For many reasons it's important that downtown Jackson succeed.

The Forman Watkins and Cathead Vodka decisions are important in that rebirth and evolution. Hopefully those are just two of many more positive announcements to come.
