Mississippi Senators Want Help For Abused Children

WASHINGTON, D. C (Mississippi News Now) -

Mississippi's two Senators are asking the Department of Justice to help abused children in this state and across the country. Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker have joined a bipartisan effort encouraging U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch to help child advocacy centers (CACs) around the country by ensuring federal support for medical and forensic services.

In a press release from their offices the senators said, these specialists fill an important role in providing assistance to abused children, conducting interviews that are often the access point for other victim services. Mississippi has nine child advocacy facilities, which serve 3,200 children throughout the state.

Senators Cochran and Wicker joined other lawmakers in writing a letter to U.S. Attorney Lynch asking for her support.
