BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (SWAC.org) – Jackson State guard Paris Collins has been recognized by the Southwestern Athletic Conference as Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his outstanding performance in competition during Dec. 2-8.

In two games played this past week, Collins recorded the first two double-doubles of his collegiate career in helping to guide Jackson State to a 1-1 record in those contests. The redshirt sophomore put up 20 points, 10 rebounds and swiped three steals in a 94-59 victory over Fisk on Dec. 2.
Collins followed that performance up with another stat-stuffing effort in the Tigers’ Dec. 4 95-88 double-overtime loss at Louisiana Tech, when he netted 25 points and grabbed 10 more rebounds. He also had four steals in the game. For the week, Collins averaged 22.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals a night while shooting 54.5 percent from the floor.
Currently, Collins ranks fourth in the SWAC in scoring (16.4 points per game) and is sixth in rebounding (6.1 per game). He leads the league in steals with 2.4 a night as well.
