Jackson clerk charged after shooting man in store

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Police have made an arrest in a south Jackson convenience store shooting. 

JPD Officer Colendula Green said Octavius Taylor was found lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Gurpreet Singh, the 19-year-old store clerk, was charged with aggravated assault.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Singh shot Taylor as he walked inside the store and approached the sales counter.

Green said the incident happened around 1 p.m. Monday at USA Gas at 3923 Terry Road. 

At the last report Taylor was in a local hospital in critical condition.

The charges came after investigators reviewed surveillance video of the incident.

So far we don't know why the clerk shot the man.
