ROSS BARNETT RESERVOIR, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A new 'pet playground' is being planned for a public park on the reservoir.

The idea was the brain-child of the Barnett Reservoir Foundation.

The area, Old Trace Park in Ridgeland, is one of the most beautiful scenic vistas on the Ross Barnett Reservoir. .

With the new area planned, dog owners can finally unleash their pets in a safe, fenced in-area, according to the Foundation.

Supporters came together and convinced others to get the project going, according to Bobby Cleveland, a member of the board.

"The park will provide those dogs and their owners an alternative to simply being walked on a leash." said Cleveland in a news release. "We're excited to play a part in this proposed park."

Funds will be raised to include large and small dog areas, as well as water fountains and waste stations.

Information on making donations to the Dog Park at the Rez can be found on the Barnett Reservoir Foundation website

The Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization that supports the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District.
