CANTON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

One day after a missing teenage girl and the body of a dead man were discovered at a home in Canton, there are still a lot of unanswered questions.

Canton's police chief said he doesn't suspect foul play for now in the death of the 56-year-old James Black, but the chief admits what happened in his house and the relationship between the missing teen and Black is still a mystery; a mystery residents want uncovered.

“The whole street was blocked off. I was like oh my God what is going,” said Canton Resident Angela Wilson.

Angela Wilson lives on Martin Luther King Drive just feet away from where her neighbor was found dead and the 16-year-old missing teen was spotted.

“I thought it was a fire or someone got hurt, so when I got home I heard the people talking with the teenager.”

Wilson said she had been hoping the teen would return home and was relieved to hear the news she was located.

“I was praying with the mom and all her other family members that she was found safe," said Wilson. "You never know what is going on inside the person's home.”

It was not such a happy ending for homeowner James Black.  His death is a surprise to his friends.

“He was a nice guy," said neighbor Roger Davis. "He liked everybody and real nice to me. He was real nice to me.” .

Canton Police Chief Otha Brown admits this case is complicated. According to Brown, several of witnesses claim the missing teen was spotted going in and out of Black's home since Saturday, but he had not been seen since that day.

Brown went on to say that Wednesday night, a passerby spotted the 16-year-old running out the house with just a sweatshirt on and that's when police were called. The homeowner was then found naked, dead and face down in his bedroom.

“I can't put this together," added Davis. "It is just kind of odd to me, especially him, because he was a nice guy to me.”

“Something was not right. Something was not right,” said Canton Resident Maybelle Nicholson

The chief said he will not speculate anything and will wait to interview the teen who is still recovering in a hospital. He's also awaiting autopsy results for Black.

MBI and the Madison County Sheriff's Department are also assisting with this case.
