Operation Warmup clothes homeless this winter

FLOWOOD, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Despite a recent stretch of warm weather, colder days are ahead and a fundraiser in Rankin county is helping the homeless stay warm this winter.

Operation Warmup returns to assist the less fortunate in the metro area and beyond.

A fundraiser was held Sunday evening at Cerami's Italian Restaurant in Flowood.

There was live music and food with ticket sales and proceeds going to the effort.

Ole Miss grad student Allison Nooe is collecting winter clothing for the homeless to be distributed to in Jackson and Atlanta.

They need coats, sweaters, gloves, scarves and socks.

"People in Mississippi were so generous last year that we had excess funds. So we want to make sure we have something to do with that this year. So we teamed with the Rolling Tigers Wheelchair Basketball Team and they're based out of Jackson, and we're gonna donate that to the U.S. Veterans that play for them," said Operation Warmup organizer Allison Nooe.

You can drop off donations of warm clothing at several places throughout the metro until December 30th.

They are Cerami's Italian Restaurant in Flowood, Cups in Brandon and at Dogwood, Any Time Fitness in Brandon, Grant's Kitchen, and in Oxford at High Point Coffee and Smoothie King.
