RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Police are investigating the armed robbery of a Dairy Queen in Ridgeland that happened on Tuesday night.

Lieutenant Tony Willridge says they received a call at around 10:57 pm that the Dairy Queen on Old Canton Road had been robbed.

An employee says he was taking out the trash when a man approached him armed with a silver handgun. He says the suspect was wearing all black and a bandana.

The employee told police that the suspect then forced the employee back inside the restaurant where he then forced the manager to open the safe.

The suspect stole the cash that was in the safe, the money that was in the registers and money that was in a deposit bag.

Police say the restaurant is not sure how much money was taken.

At this time, deputies are checking surveillance video and interviewing witnesses.
