JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The annual Craig Bluntson Senior Citizen Food Drive was held Wednesday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall in Jackson.

More than 300 seniors lined up to receive a hen and a grocery bag filled with food.

"It helps a lot, since I lost my husband," said Jackson resident, Charlie Mae Frazier.

Former Jackson city councilman Frank Bluntson has organized the event for 36 years to make sure senior citizens have food for the holidays. The food drive is also held in memory of Bluntson's son, Craig, who died of a heart attack at the age of 33.

"My son died doing good things, working in the senior citizen efforts," said Frank Bluntson. "And that's why I look forward to it every Christmas."

Bluntson says donations and volunteers help to make the food drive a success each year.
