Convicted felon sentenced to 8 years for possession of firearm

A Jackson man will be spending 8 more years in prison for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

32-year-old Recardeo Harris of Jackson was sentenced on Wednesday to 96 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was also ordered to pay a $1500 fine. 

The judge also ordered the forfeiture of all firearms and ammunition involved in the offense which included: One Sig Sauer, Model P250, 9mm caliber semi-automatic pistol; One Browning Arms .22 caliber semi-automatic long rifle; One Smith & Wesson, 9mm caliber semi-automatic pistol; 13 rounds of 9rnm Western Cartridge Company brand ammunition; Nine rounds of .22 caliber Remington brand ammunition; 16 rounds of 9mm Brazilian Cartridge brand ammunition; 193 assorted rounds of ammunition; and 15 rounds of 9mm Federal brand ammunition.

Harris was indicted on August 4 as part of the Jackson Violent Crime Initiative. The purpose of this initiative is to reduce violent crime in the city of Jackson and remove violent offenders from the streets.

This ongoing operation is aimed at making the streets of Jackson and surrounding areas safe. 

Jackson Violent Crime Initiative partners include the Jackson Police Department, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), U.S. Marshals Service, Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and U.S. Secret Service.
