JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Wednesday night, the City of Jackson issued a boil water notice for a good portion of the highway business district.

It stretches from Ellis Avenue to Lynch Street and about ten restaurants in that area.

This was all caused by a water main that broke on Lynch Street in front of Gateway Tires. That leak has since been repaired.

This isn't the first boil water notice that these restaurant owners say they've had to deal with. For some it's become routine, but a great inconvenience.

Many are having to change the way they prepare their food; boiling all their water before they cook with it, which takes time. That applies to all the food they cater also.

Washing dishes is also becoming impossible so many eateries are having to use paper plates.

Carbonated drinks from a machine also have to be replaced with canned drinks.

The boil water alert should be lifted by Friday, if there are three straight days of clean testing by the State Health Department.
