Bond set at $250,000 for man accused of attempted kidnapping

Derrick McGee was in court today in Vicksburg and his bond has been set at $250,000. McGee has been charged with attempted kidnapping by force. A 911 caller helped stop the attempted kidnapping of the Vicksburg woman who was out exercising. 

On Wednesday, Vicksburg police responded to a report from a caller that said she was flagged down on Washington Street by a woman who told her a man held her at gunpoint.

The caller dialed 911 and followed the suspect as he ran east on Main Street. The caller stayed on the line with the dispatcher providing information while she followed the suspect, identified as Derrick McGee. The suspect got into a car and drove east on Clay Street.

Officers were able to catch up with the caller and the suspect’s car. McGee was caught at the intersection of Clay Street and Mission 66.

The victim told investigators she was out walking when she believed McGee was following her. The victim said she crossed the street to get away from the him but when she turned around he was directly behind her with a gun.

The victim reported she was ordered at gunpoint to “get in the bushes” by McGee.

The victim began to scream for help and McGee ran off
