PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Even though Star Wars: The Force Awakens -- the seventh installment in the Star Wars saga -- premieres Friday, hundreds of people were pouring into Pearl's Cinemark Tinseltown Theater for Thursday's pre-show, showing just how popular the franchise continues to be.

"It's crazy," said Brandon resident Kaiden Garlington. "I'm just ready to see the next step, the next chapter in what's happened to all these characters' lives in this next movie. Getting all dressed up, coming out, getting ready to see some fresh Star Wars content for the first time in forever. I'm stoked."

"I'm going to enjoy it either way, man," said Joshua Turner, who lives in Shreveport. "All the work that they've put into it, it should be a good movie either way."

Many came dressed as their favorite characters, including Vicksburg resident Jose Sanchez, who came as Han Solo.

"I've told my family, I've told my friends several times, I definitely think Episode VII is going to break the box office," said Sanchez.

Fans say they think it's very possible the film's going to make the $200 million it's estimated to make over the opening weekend. However, there are some other factors, other forces, that could change that.

History could prove to be a factor.

There's never been a December opening weekend that's grossed more than $100 million in its opening in the history of film.

Also, no film has ever made more than $100 million in a day.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" would have to break at least one of those records to hit that estimated goal and surpass $200 million.
