JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Gov. Phil Bryant announced today that he has reappointed Charlotte Corley as Banking Commissioner.

As Banking Commissioner, Corley is responsible for oversight of financial institutions chartered under state authority and will ensure that those institutions comply with Mississippi’s banking laws and regulations.

Governor Bryant first appointed Corley to the post in November 2014.

“I am pleased that Charlotte has accepted this reappointment,” Gov. Bryant said. “She has proven herself an effective leader of the Department of Banking and Consumer Finance and has operated the agency with efficiency and integrity. I look forward to continuing to work with her as she and her staff ensure our banking institutions remain in compliance with state law.”

Corley has 30 years with the Mississippi Department of Banking and Consumer Finance. After joining the Department in 1985 as a bank examiner, she worked her way through the ranks to become Banking Division Director in 2000, then Deputy Commissioner in 2013.

“I look forward to the next four years under the effective leadership of Governor Bryant,” Corley said. "Along with a highly competent staff, I will do my part to fulfill DBCF’s mission of providing the public with a convenient, safe and competitive banking environment along with fair and lawful consumer related transactions. My staff and I are committed to providing quality supervision to Mississippi’s financial industry. The strength and integrity of the financial industry is one of the primary drivers of Mississippi’s economy.”

A native Mississippian, Corley earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Banking and Finance from Mississippi State University.

She is a graduate of the School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University and a graduate of the American Bankers Association National Graduate Trust School at Northwestern University.

Corley is married with three children, all graduates of Mississippi State.
