Middle school student fighting for his life

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Jackson middle school student is hospitalized and is fighting for his life. The 14-year-old boy was the victim of gun violence as he was on his way to a Christmas program Thursday night.

Jackson Police are actively looking for the person responsible. The victim's family and friends spoke out and said they are just trying to cope with what has happened.

"It's just senseless man," said the victim's older brother.

Multiple shots rang out leaving 14 year old Jadarious Ivy fighting for his life. Now his older brother, cousin and close friends are putting a spotlight on the 8th grade Rowan Middle School Football player who was shot multiple times in front of the school. a

"He's a good boy and he doesn't do anything wrong," said Deante Noble. "He's a good child. I don't think this should have happened to him."

Jackson Police are actively searching for the shooter who was last seen driving down Ash Street in a light colored Chevy Impala just minutes after the shooting.

"I was actually in my house at the time, said Tevin Miner. "Me and my friend were gaming and then we heard the gunshots ring out really loud. Since the neighborhood is pretty bad I just thought it was someone shooting in the air."

Miner grew up on the same street where Ivy was shot. Miner is home on military leave and said the violence must end because innocent lives are being affected.

"They are too young, added Miner. "I mean, kids should be able to go outside and enjoy their time or go to school for a Christmas program without worrying about getting shot. It's too violent."

Jackson Public School Security officers stood in front of the school while inside students made get well cards to send to their friend and classmate in hopes of a full recovery.
