JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The group, Respect Our Black Dollars, held a small protest Saturday afternoon at the USA Gas station on Terry Road.

On December 8th, 19-year-old store clerk, Gurpreet Singh shot a customer at the location.

Witnesses told police the victim was ambushed.

The teen was charged after investigators reviewed surveillance video.

Some people in the area say the convenience store is no stranger to violence and is a haven for suspicious activity.

"This is not the first time. They got a history of doing this to customers. However, it took this young man getting shot for it to be brought to the public. And we are here letting customers know that you shouldn't spend money at stores in your community where they disrespect you and your community," said Stanley Wesley, President of Respect Our Black Dollars.

Wesley says the group plans to protest again on Sunday.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Gurpreet Singh on December 21.

Singh is charged with aggravated assault.
