Good Samaritan Center provides toys and food for 75 Jackson families

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Sometimes working families struggle to pay the bills and fall a little short when it comes to the holidays.

That's why The Good Samaritan Center of Jackson has its annual toy and food drive for their Christmas Assistance Programs.

They took applications throughout the month of November and on Tuesday, it was time to deliver the holiday cheer to families in need; not just toys, but a food box, with a Christmas ham, and this year something extra special.

Kathy Clem, executive director said, "This year, we're actually giving them a shopping spree at our resale store and they can buy anything they need or anything they want for their families and they're...that's the thing that they all went whoo..they were so excited for and we're so thrilled to be able to do that."

Clem said 75 families applied for assistance this year, down a bit from years past. She said it's still not too late to apply if you need help.

Clem said the Good Samaritan Center is open until 5pm Tuesday and from 9 until 5pm Wednesday.
