MAGEE, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A young life lost tragically this weekend in Simpson county was remembered by a community Wednesday night in Magee.

It took place at one of Jacob Allan's favorite places. And in the glow of hundreds of candles his family was moved by the overwhelming support from friends and strangers.

"We're not gonna be able to fall down, because we've got too many people here to pick us up," said Jacob Allan's father Philip Allan.

The Christmas season will never be the same for Philip and Jean Allan who lost their youngest of three children, Jacob, Saturday in an accidental shooting.

It happened at this grandmother's home in the Mount Moriah community of Simpson county.

"His older brother, his grandfather were there Michael and him were leaving to come home when it happened," said Philip Allan. "We  believe he tripped or fell coming down the steps of his grandmother's house and the gun accidentally discharged striking him."

More than 200 people, family, friends, classmates, first responders and others lit a candle and said a prayer for the Magee Middle School seventh grader.

The 13-year-old is described as a respectful, kind and thoughtful child, who loved football, was on the Magee Middle school team and loved baseball and basketball.

Event organizer Firefighter Jonathan Blackwell said the Magee Fire Station was the perfect place for the candlelight vigil because Jacob was a fixture there.

"This was Jacob's second home. He loved the fire department. Every day he was not at school or him and Philip would come up here. He loved being here. He loved crawling on the fire trucks, learning everything he could. I said what other better place to have it than to have it here at his second home," said Firefighter Jonathan Blackwell.

"The community's been real good to us. friends and family. I mean everybody's just been real good to us during this time," said Jacob's mother Jean Allan. "We're just trying to be strong. That's what Jacob would want."

Funeral services and burial for Jacob Allen were held Wednesday morning at Corinth Baptist Church in Magee.
