JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

With luggage in hand Bret Robbins hoped to make it to the Washington D.C. area before Christmas.

"I looked on my phone. Saw I had a bunch of delays and the delays kept piling up and piling up,” said Robbins.

Lingering effects from recent storms in Mississippi and in other parts of the country caused some Christmas Eve flight delays.

"I didn't think the weather was going to affect us today. I was hoping at least it wouldn't but I guess it comes with the territory,” says Colbert.

Chris Johnson thought a less expensive flight on Christmas Eve would pay off, but he was stuck Thursday morning too.

"They said it won't leave till 12 which will put me in Atlanta at 3:18 and my flight to Colorado is at 3:15,” says Johnson.

Udaya Shivangi and her husband hope to make it to India for Christmas. Shivangi has been keeping her eye on her phone optimistic delays won't hamper her holiday. In spite of the stress Shivangi says the airlines have been very helpful.

"They have been very accommodating and friendly and working with us,” says Shivangi.

Like most, Robbins is hoping he's not stuck in the airport again on Christmas day.

"I just want to go home and see my mom, dad and sister,” says Robbins.

Make sure you monitor the weather and check with your airline before heading to the airport.
