BROOKHAVEN, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Two people were shot and killed early Christmas Eve morning and one person has been arrested.

According to Brookhaven Police Chief Bobby Bell, the victims are 17-year-old Jaquairus Jones and 22-year-old Julian Gayten.

Area residents said they are tired of the constant violence in the small city.

"All we can do is just pray and ask God for protection," said one resident.

Police believe it was a conspiracy to rob and kill Gayten.

He was shot and killed inside a home on North Jackson Street just after 6:30 Thursday morning.

Another Brookhaven resident said, "It's been horrible. It has really been horrible. It's just a shame you have to fear everyday going from day to day wondering what's going to take place. People are just getting crazy."

Jones, the second victim shot, later died at Kings Daughters Medical Center.

Chief Bobby Bell said 17-year-old Marionne Keys is behind bars charged with conspiracy to robbery and conspiracy after the fact of murder. Bell said his team believes she conspired with Jones to rob and kill Gayten.

Brookhaven Police spent hours processing the crime scene and taking pictures of the smashed in door.

The Lincoln County Coroner said the victim's bodies are being sent to the crime lab for autopsies.
