JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A man was shot in the head on Christmas Day and is in the hospital with life threatening injuries.

Jackson Police have taken two people of interest into custody.

Jackson residents said the crime in the city is senseless and unnecessary.

One Jackson resident said, "Especially on Christmas Day it's a tragedy. There is too much violence going on."

As young children and families tried to celebrate Christmas, crime scene tape blocked portions of Barbara Avenue just off Clinton Boulevard Christmas Day. The Jackson Police Department's Crime Unit investigator took pictures where the shooting happened.
Witnesses told us there were multiple gunshots that rang out before the man was shot in the head.

One Jackson resident said, "They think because they are men they are stronger, but no one should have to live with abuse."

Jackson Police Officer Colendula Green said the shooting happened just before noon. Witnesses on scene said they heard arguing before the gunfire started. Jackson residents we spoke with didn't want to reveal their identity, but say the violence in the Capital City has become extreme.

One Jackson resident said, "I've always had the motto, love is the answer. If we spread our love the world would be a better place."

The victim, whose identity is not being released, was rushed to a local hospital in a private car. His injuries are life threatening. Officer Green said the two people of interest are in custody, but are not yet suspects.

Right now, investigators do not have a motive.
