JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A little after 12:30 p.m. Saturday we were notified, by a passenger on the "City of New Orleans" Amtrak train, that a pickup truck had been struck by the train.

The passenger, Clint of Jackson, said he boarded the train in Jackson Saturday afternoon.

"The story we're hearing is a guy, who was hunting was after a deer and he was driving his truck on the track, not crossing the tracks, but ON the track!," Clint said.

The accident happened on the railroad tracks at I-55 south near Elton Road in Jackson.

"We barely felt the bump...of the train hitting the truck. I don't think anyone was hurt," Clint added.

Witnesses on the scene also said a man drove his truck down the tracks searching for a deer.

According to the driver of the pickup, his tires got stuck and that's when the Amtrak train slammed into his truck.

Photos provided to us, by Clint show the truck on the tracks with obvious damage.

Clint said the train was leaving Jackson and headed to New Orleans. He estimated at least 100 people boarded the train in Jackson, but other passengers were on board, who'd gotten on further north of Jackson.

Around 1:20 p.m. Clint said the train was moving again and headed to its New Orleans destination.

We have reached out to JPD, but have not heard back from them.
