VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Vicksburg Police are investigating a murder/suicide that involves a nine-year-old boy.

It was a horrific crime scene on Christmas night. Vicksburg Police responded to a domestic disturbance call finding flames ripping through the family's home.

Deputy Chief Bobby Stewart said, "Upon arriving on scene officers discovered the house was on fire and discovered an adult male and a male child outside the residence deceased."

The two deceased are father and son, 39-year-old James Jarrod Wasson and his nine-year-old son Jim Wasson. The Warren County Coroner said the two did not die from smoke inhalation. Vicksburg Police Department's Deputy Chief Bobby Stewart said his team is investigating the case as a murder/suicide.

Stewart said, "They've been sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for autopsies to determine exact cause of death. However, it appears Wasson suffered a self inflicted injury."

Broken Christmas lights and what appeared to be the families dog, was all that was left at the home on Briarwood Place. Wasson just married his wife back in October. It was their first Christmas together.

Deputy Chief Stewart said Wasson left behind a second son that was just seven-years-old.

Stewart said, "Wasson's wife and another small child who was at the residence, at the time of the disturbance, were able to escape during the altercation between Wasson and his wife."

We are told the argument is what led to the 911 call dispatching police to the scene. As for the fire, investigators are actively trying to determine how it started.

Stewart added, "They were on the scene most of the night and throughout the morning. The cause of the fire is still being investigated and hasn't been determined, yet."
