Yazoo County man fatally shot after two groups argue in club parking lot

HOLMES COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

An argument Sunday morning between two groups in a Holmes County night club parking lot ended with one man being fatally shot.

Holmes County Coroner Dexter Howard identified the victim as 42-year-old Randall "Randy" Whitworth of Yazoo City.

Sheriff Willie March said the shooting occurred around 1:25 a.m. in the parking lot of the Spell Club, in the Coxburg community, south of Lexington.

Forty-one-year-old Greg L. Watkins of Morton turned himself in to deputies after the incident and faces murder charges.

The sheriff said Whitworth was shot at least once in the upper body and died en route to UMMC.

According to investigators, the shooting stemmed from a dispute between a group from Morton and another from Yazoo City.

No other injuries were reported and the investigation is ongoing.

Sheriff March said this is the county's sixth murder so far this year.
