Two crashes caused on same stretch of interstate in Copiah County

COPIAH COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Rainy weather and backed up traffic from the 18 wheeler crash may have caused a two car crash on the same stretch of interstate in Copiah County.

Corporal Eric Henry with MHP said shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday a Toyota Corolla rear ended a Toyota Camry in the northbound lane of I-55 near Hazlehurst.

The driver and passenger in both vehicles were transported to the hospital with injuries.

Copiah County officials said one of the cars was upside down in the median.

Northbound travel in the area was affected by a tractor trailer accident that Copiah County authorities said happened just after noon.

The big rig was on its side, but not in the roadway.
