Weather: What to expect Sunday night through Monday, the week

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

There is a severe weather threat overnight Sunday through the Monday morning commute.

Heavy rain is likely, with moderate threats for wind damage and lower threats for tornadoes.

Temperatures will fall to near 60 degrees at daybreak and then hold steady throughout the day.

Rain will end around lunchtime, with some clearing in the afternoon.

The rest of the week will be much cooler with highs in the 50s to near 60 and overnight lows in the 30s and 40s.  

These are normal temperatures for this time of year.  

New Year's Eve looks dry and chilly with temperatures near 40 degrees.

Normal high this time of year is 56 and the normal low is 36.  

Sunrise is 7 a.m. Monday and the sunset is 5:03pm.  

Winds will be gusty Sunday night and Monday from the south at 20 to 30mph with higher gusts in storms.  

Vicksburg and Jackson set new record high temperatures Sunday, reaching the 81 degree mark and breaking the old records of 80 in 2008.
