MADISON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Traffic has reopened on both lanes of I-55 after the one vehicle crash that took down power lines startled motorists and leaving live wires on the roadway.

The accident happened Tuesday around 5 p.m. when a Chevy HHR left the roadway and hit a utility pole taking down power lines on the interstate above and along Highway 51.

Power lines fell across four cars. There were no injuries reported.

Entergy officials say a distribution line was taken down in the crash.

Velma Harris was on I-55 just before the I-220 exit when a power line fell on her Honda Accord.

"By the time I had got on there and getting ready to merge and go down 220 it just fell out of the sky and it just fell on my car and it sparked up. Wasn't doing anything outrageous, wasn't swerving in and out of traffic. It just happened to fall and as I looked behind me, I didn't see the light, but I saw the other cars behind me had stopped and traffic just piled up," Harris said.

Traffic reopened at 7:45 p.m. this evening.

Entergy said 188 customers mostly businesses lost power which was restored shortly after 7 p.m.
