Community Steps Up to Help Abandoned Animals

COLUMBUS, Mississippi (AP) - Residents have responded in a big way after nearly 100 abandoned and stray pets arrived at the Columbus Lowndes Humane Society in the first two weeks of December.
CLHS director Karen Johnwick tells The Commercial Dispatch
that several people came in to either make a donation or adopt. Johnwick says they had 16 adoptions.
Johnwick says although the kennels aren't as full as they were in mid-December, they're still pretty crowded. CLHS generally finds itself in a crunch, not only in terms of kennel space but in supplies and money needed to care for the animals it takes in.
Johnwick says they would love to have people donate on a regular basis. She says many of the society's needs such as food and supplies are constant throughout the year.
