YAZOO COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Residents in the Mississippi Delta are preparing for rising flood waters.

The Yazoo river is expected to flood parts of the county, forcing many to higher ground.

Many residents are filling sandbags and placing them around their homes.

One homeowner in Satartia said he got over 8 inches inside his house during the historic flood of 2011.

Further north into the delta, some people are raising their homes, hoping they avoid the flood waters.

Many are closely watching the predicted crests in Vicksburg.

As of Monday, these crests are continuously dropping, which could mean good news for them.

County officials are offering free sand to residents, who remain hopeful they can avoid disaster from the hands of mother nature.
