Cheshire Abbey's 5th Annual Dog House Drive underway

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A local group is hoping to help animals left out in the cold.

Volunteers with Cheshire Abbey are asking for donations to provide shelter for dogs and cats this winter.  This is the  5th Annual Dog House Drive.

The local animal rescue says there was not much need last month with the warm temperatures but cold,  wet weather can lead to miserable deaths for animals left outside.

Eliza Ueltschey with Cheshire Abbey said, "We're hoping to get donations of dog houses, new or used and supplies such as tarps, hay, gift cards to places like Lowe's so we can buy our own supplies."

Ueltschey also says it is now a state law that cats and dogs must have food, water and shelter. She hopes Mississippi lawmakers will pass tougher animal cruelty laws this legislative session.

Volunteers will come and set up dog houses for the elderly or for those who need help. They will also pick up donations or you can drop them off. If you can help call (601) 212-6021 for more information.
