Taking Back Our Neighborhoods-Boyd Street success

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

I've been following the progress of an eyesore removal in the historic Belhaven Heights neighborhood of Jackson after a viewer reached out to 3 On Your Side for help.

When the abandoned and dilapidated house on Boyd Street collapsed in August 2015, it fell on Sidney Mack's dream of restoring his family's 100-year-old home. It's in Jackson's historic Belhaven Heights neighborhood.

Sidney Mack said, "My wife's grandson came over here. They're from Biloxi. And he was scared to walk up to the property because of that."

The dilapidated house on Boyd Street had been down almost 4 months when Sidney Mack called 3 On your Side for help. After our first Taking Back Our Neighborhoods report aired, this is what happened 4 weeks later.

We documented heavy equipment moved in a week after our initial report. Two days later...demolition...the city of Jackson's community improvement division reported bad weather was holding up progress,

But on January 4, the final remnants of 808 Boyd Street were moved away and a very pleased Sidney Mack was happy to have his neighborhood back.

Sidney Mack said, "I just want to thank you, 3 On Your Side and the city of Jackson for stepping up to the plate."

Let us help you take back your neighborhood. Just send an email to hballou@wlbt.com or contact me on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
