Freeze earns extension, large pay raise

Ole Miss announced a contract extension with a significant pay raise Wednesday for head football coach Hugh Freeze.

The Rebels, fresh off winning their first Sugar Bowl in 46 years, extended Freeze's contract to 4 years, the maximum allowable by state law. His annual base salary increases to $4.7 million in 2016, and will escalate each season. Freeze will earn $5 million in 2018 and $5.15 million in 2019, the final year of the existing contract.

Ole Miss also announced an increase in the salary pool for Freeze's 9 assistant coaches to $4.26 million, among other increases in budget and staff.

Freeze is the first coach in program history to lead the Rebels to bowl games in each of his first four seasons.
