Blues Marathon could cause significant traffic delays

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The 9th annual Mississippi Blues Marathon starts at 7 am on Saturday at the intersection of Pascagoula Street and Lamar Street.  

On Friday, participants are picking up registration materials until 9 pm at the Jackson Convention Complex during the Mississippi Blues Marathon Expo.

Nearly 4,000 people from 46 states and several countries have registered for the race. This year's race is paying special tribute to iconic Mississippian, B.B. King, who passed away in 2015. 
The race route will be passing through a number of major intersections in central and north Jackson, resulting in traffic delays.

All of the following intersections involved in the race will be managed by JPD officers who will work traffic through as quickly as possible.  

Streets will not be closed but drivers should expect delays at each intersection:

•    State Street at High Street – 7:30 – 8:00 a.m.
•    State Street at Fortification Street – 7:30 – 8:15 a.m.
•    State Street at Woodrow Wilson Drive – 7:40 -8:30 a.m.
•    Old Canton Road at Lakeland Drive– 7:40 – 8:45 a.m.
•    Meadowbrook Road at Old Canton/Frontage Roads – 8:00 – 10:00 a.m.
•    Northside Drive at Old Canton Road– 8:00 – 10:15 a.m.
•    Old Canton Road at Wayneland Road – 8:10 – 10:30 a.m.
•    Ridgewood Road at Old Canton Road– 8:15 – 10:45 a.m.
•    Ridgewood Road at Eastover Drive– 8:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
•    Lakeland Drive at Highland Drive – 7:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
•    North Street at Fortification Street – 8:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
•    State Street at Court Street – 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
•    Pascagoula Street will be closed from Mill Street to State Street until noon and all cross streets detoured to State Street or Gallatin Street.
