Biggest auto show in Mississippi comes to Capital City

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The biggest auto show in Mississippi kicked off in the Capital City Saturday with more than 175 custom racing vehicles competing for awards.

The BankPlus Racing Vehicle Extravaganza celebrated its 28th consecutive year this weekend, offering fans the chance to see one-of-a-kind custom cars all day Saturday and Sunday.

Mississippi native Kye Kelley, featured on the Discovery Channel show "Street Outlaws," also serves as the event's special guest.

Kelley posed for photos and autographed memorabilia for dozens on Saturday.

Promoter Bill Bissell said quite a few vehicles would draw looks from racing fans, including a $300,000 Corvette.

NASCAR fans can also see Kyle Busch's first season restored Sprint Cup car.

The most impressive vehicle in the room is Kelley's race car, dubbed the "Shocker."

It's considered to be the fastest street car in America, according to Bissell, reaching speeds in excess of 220 miles per hour.

"I've been watching 'Street Outlaws' since the very beginning, since they came out. We just wanted to come and see the car," said racing enthusiast Andrew Wells.
